Where the name comes from
“And what about your Pompon — weren’t you thinking of him? He was all alone, waiting for you…”
In Pagnol’s La Femme du boulanger, Aimable says this to his cat, home from running off. He scolds her for her escapades and for forgetting poor Pompon, left alone at the house — and the whole village understands that it is not entirely the cat he is talking to.
Our own Pomponette has chosen the quai des Baux. She sits and watches the boats go by, a red pompom on her head, and shows no sign of leaving.
We keep her company from the first coffee of the morning to the last glass of the evening, with whatever the Mediterranean cares to give and the wines of the vineyard next door.
The house
La Pomponette sits on the quai des Baux, where the harbour opens onto the bay and Cap Canaille closes the horizon. The room looks out over the water; so does the terrace.
A wine bar, a counter, an oyster bar: people come for a glass of white Cassis and half a dozen oysters, for a lunch that runs long, or for an ice cream at the end of the afternoon. We serve all day — there is always something to eat.
The team
A small team, in the kitchen and on the floor. A fuller introduction will come with the first photographs.
